What is Trace evidence? How can they be used to solve crimes and associate suspects to the crime? Explore the world of Trace evidence through the use of microscopy and learn how evidence that may go unnoticed by the naked eye can provide useful forensic findings. Students get to discover the various types of trace evidence, where they can be found, learn the parts of a microscope and how to use one as well as observe and record features that can only be viewed microscopically.

Students get to:

  • Discover the various types of trace evidence
  • Learn how to use a microscope and document the samples viewed under the microscope
  • Hone observation and lab skills through hands-on activities such as physical fitting and identifying the different paint layers
  • Interact with classmates and instructor in small group discussions
